Week we worked on Legs!

Just before Midterm of the semester we focused on Legs. We worked on upper legs and did a lot 30 min Drawings. I thought this was a Easy part of the body to draw, but kinda forgot how much actual Definition was in the upper leg. We had a good model to see / draw this. From this week I can definitely draw a leg/ butt faster and more accurately. Above are 2 of the drawing from this week! After looking back on these drawing I can see that I need to work on Pencil Pressure. (Light/Dark Lines and correct places to use them.

Last Week of LD1

This week in LD1 we learned about facial Features/ Hair. Also our Final Inked up shell was due. we had some skull drawing due for homework, which I have mysteriously misplaced!! On Monday we drew some of our classmates hair / Heads. Basically applying the knowledge of the skull and placing some skin/cartilage over solves all problems. We also got our Self Portrait assignment today which im really excited for, I love doing them. Here attach is Self Portrait and my Final Shell Drawing!! I love doing Simple Stylized Self Portraits. Hope you Like!

Things I wanted to work on for the Self Portrait -- Good proportions / Well done Eyes/Ears... Oh and my Stylized Feel!!

LD1 Field Trip

This is a missing blog post that never made it. This was for the week were we went of the Field Trip to the 2 art museums in the Cities. This was a fun week, I love to go on interesting trips. I have not been to these museums in a long time, so it was nice to see other artists work. But of the 2 museums I liked the second one better, the Animal / Bell Museum. I'm more of a Hands on learner, and you could handle anything on the 3rd floor. For the Drawing we had to do, I did a Elephant Bone. I picked this to draw because of the Very Interesting form.

Secondly we had to write about a piece of work from the Walker Art Center. I chose "My Studio #One:The Vagaries of Painting "these are sadder picture."" This was a very long oil painting of Random Translucent Vases/Glasses. This was done by Jim Dine in 1978. Its a very sad painting. the Perspective is VERY screwed up. It has a very interesting selection of objects, including a skull, some masks, and a lot of very stylized bottles. This was also the largest painting in the room by far, and that made if very Noticeable.

End of semester Review

End of the Semester Reflection!

Well when I first started this semester in LD1 I wanted to achieve a faster sketching style and some understanding to how to drawing the human figure. Since Industrial Design is my major I really wanted to focus on Hands, since it is nice to know them well for representing you product Photography in drawn hands. I think I have a much better understand of human form after taking this class, and I definitely have learned how to use India Inks better. But things that I would still work on after the class would be Correct proportions / knowledge of when to use Dark/Light lines. But overall I think this Rough semester turned out good, I got everything done by then end, and I learned a lot about Human Form.

After checking with my Midterm goals, I would say I have improved on everyone one! I have faster/more accurate sketching skills. I would also say that there is still room for improvement, And I play on doing so over summer. Basically I think I started to improve faster after all of my Medical Stuff was out of the way, and I could focus more on school. Glad its done, and I have can have a normal Semester again next year.

Lastly, I'm going to use the knowledge that ive gained in this class every day of my job. again my Major is Industrial Design, We do a bunch of product sketching/ And the knowhow to sketch human's and complex forms in general will help immensely. I also plan on taking LD2 Next Semester!!

I will also be adding some missing blog posts after this one, along with the Link to my Final Portfolio.

Sunday, May 2, 2010

So last week in Class we learned about SKULLS..There is so much information about that little piece ofthe body. I thought that the skull was one big bone, I had never notice all the suture marks. After learning about It and drawing 3 different views I understand it much better. I have found that the Eye Holes are the most intresting part of the skull...and maybe would like to do a drawing based on them.

I just realized today after doing an Industrial Design project that involved doing a human sketch.. that is was much easier to do, and it look ed very proportional ... thank you life drawaing!!

My Camera has still not shown up So i did a search though pictures of skulls and found this one I really like. I think I might do a drawing for myself similar to this one

Some of My Drawings for Midterm!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/48469412@N02/

Shell Numero dos

Sum of first 1/2 the Semester!

After just a couple days of Life drawing I have noticed that I can sketch quicker and more Accuratly. We started off with just finding the spine, and drawing that. It seemed silly at the time, but now whenever I want to draw something I will start with that.. It just seems like a good and acurate way to start off a drawing. I also have always been sort of a wrist drawer, but now im learning to use my elbow to get more fulid lines/more emotion in each stroke. Then we started putting in the Rib Cage and the pelvice. This seems very nice to know this Info so you can get a very accurate drawing.
So now that half a semester is now complete, the major things I have learned - Sketching speed / Accurate info going fast / Draw farther back so you get more fluid strokes / Know stucture of body, for more acurate drawings. I still would like to improve on Sketching speed and how accurete things are, Since I'm an ID'er, I think that would benifite me the most! Also this has been a VERY VERY hard semester for me, I have had HUGEEEEE problems with headaches(migrains) soo I have missed out on alot of info from classes I havem missed. Now its spring break time.... time to relax and reenergize for the rest of the semester

So for the last 2 week or so I have had this Shell sitting next to me on my Desk. It is a Larger Shell with a Spiral Spike Pattern on it. It is about 7 inches long and 4 inches at its widest point. Its a "Conch Shell" or Eustrombus gigas..this could be one of the Queen Conch Shells. Its got a very Grainy outter structure, and a couple of cracks along hte spikes. It weighs about 2 pounds.
This Shell at one point had a Hermit Crab or a Sea Snail in it. My guess it was a larger snail because ofhte size of the shell. The inside of the shell is very smooth!! I think this will be a fun object to draw, and will help alot with my drawing skills. I think the form is very Dynamic and Interesting to say the least.. Well im off to bed!!!
Sooo the last week of Life Drawing I missed due to a Family Emerg, and Sickness. But I talked with Simon about it and he was showing me now to draw the Spine, and thatis how you should always start your figures out.
